Fire resistant safes and cabinets
Important papers, data media and precious items with emotional and irreplaceable or high fiancial value you want to store safely and protect them from fire.
Standards
Safes and cabinets tested to fireproof standards such as EN 1047-1 and UL 72 offer you the best protection and the
maximum security. There are also other standards you may encounter when purchasing a safe or cabinet (fiure 1 and 3). An important distinction is made between paper and data media because of their susceptibility to damage. For example, data on digital data media becomes damaged at temperatures as low as 52°C (figure 2).

The temperature of a fire is affected by several things such as:
1) The duration of the fire
2) Different materials
3) Is it a running or a stationary fire
The fact is that the average temperature of a fire can reach 600 to 800 °C. In extreme cases, the temperature can even rise to 1000 °C. Protection against fire of paper or data carriers.
Fireproof products are designed to ensure that the interior temperature of the cabinet remains below the temperature at which paper or data is damaged. Paper damages or can even decay above a temperature of 175°C.
The critical limit for magnetic data carriers and digital data carriers is already around 50 °C. Above this temperature, the data on the media is likely to be lost. Therefore, in a safe that is tested against fire for 1 hour for paper, for example, your backup tapes are not protected against fire. To protect your media, you need a data safe. In fact, in addition to fire, data safes also protect against moisture, dust and soot particles.
However, there are data boxes available for some safes that can be used in a fireproof safe. This gives you the perfect protection against both fire and theft for your papers and data.
Fire resistance testing
If you want to protect your documents from fire, choose one of the tested fireproof safes.
Fireproof testing takes place at independent test institutes in various countries. There are various fireproof standards according to which a safe can be tested. The safes are tested at high temperatures. Tested is whether the safe adequately protects the contents.
Some standards even have a drop test that tests whether the protective effect is not adversely affected if the fireproof cabinet falls through a floor during a fire.
Fire resistance is expressed in minutes followed by P for paper or DIS for data. These test standards indicate how long a fire-resistant cabinet protects paper or data in the event of a major fire.
