Standards for safes and safes

To purchase the right fire safe, choices must be made. The correct names burglary-resistant cabinet and fire-resistant cabinet are unfortunately too long for everyday use, and are abbreviated to fire cabinet or safe. The product group can be divided into 3 categories: fire resistant, burglary resistant and fire and burglary resistant.

Indication of value storage

This term indicates how much cash or valuables the insurance covers when stored in the safe. This assumes that the cash is stored in a burglary-proof safe in and unoccupied, unattended and unsecured premises within a built-up area. Depending on the security measures taken, insurers may deviate from the coverage indication.

Tip

Always check with your insurance company to see if they agree with the indicative salvage value listed for your chosen safe. This is because various environmental factors can reduce the value insured, but also increase it!

European certification

According to these standards, safes must be tested by an independent testing institute according to the standard EN 1143-1. In the test institutes, experienced people go to work with the safe to break it open. The results obtained are converted into a resistance value. This takes into account factors such as time and tools. Based on the test results, a safe is classified in a certain resistance class. The standard for deposit safes is described in EN 1143-2.

Classification

ESSA

ESSA, the European Security Systems Association, is an independent institute whose goal is to establish clear, uniform test methods, standardization and certification of safes, locks and test institutes.

ESSA certified products receive a blue ECB-S label. This lists the most important features of the safe:

  • the certificate number
  • the resistance class
  • the weight
  • the year of construction

This ECB-S certificate is also found on the inside of door and offers the buyer the assurance that his safe meets the set European standards.

De Raat Security Products is a member and certificate holder of ESSA / ECB-S

Note: a safe or safe up to 1000 kg must always be properly anchored.
